Perugia ‘City of ar’t is rich in history and monuments. It was founded by the Etruscans and still is the cultural and economic hub of the region. The town is an big tourist destination as well as a university city.  The Italian state university. was one of the first free universities in Italy. It was founded  “Studium Generale” on 8 September 1308. The second university is the prestigious Università per Stranieri (1921) and dedicated to foreigners.

The National Gallery of Umbria, one of the main art collections in Italy, is housed on the upper floors of the Palazzo dei Priori in Perugia. This building is the seat of the Municipality since medieval times and a significant example of Gothic civil architecture. It is rich in important works of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.  

Perugia is equally famous for typical gastronomy events and home of two of the important events in the food & music industry.  The “Umbria Jazz Festival is on of the most important in the world and  has been held annually since 1973. EuroChocolate is   one of the largest chocolate feasts in Europa and draws nearly one million tourist and Italian natives each year.

The surroundings

Perugia is set on a hilltop in center of Umbria. Ancient hamlets, villages, castles, and rural homes are littered all over the surrounding countryside. Many interesting sites and cities are within easy reach such as Assisi 21 km, Lago Trasimeno 22 great for watersport, the vineyards of Montefalco and Bevagna, and picturesque towns like Spello and Trevi. The nearest international airport is Perugia, at 15 km distance.
