The castle

In the 10th and 11th century Monte Frondoso was chosen as an outpost of Perugia because of its strategic location. The castle was initially a defence structure and served to maintain control over the immediate surroundings. The plaque over the main entrance still lists the illustrous families that have owned the castle throughout the centuries during which is was transformed from military post to residence. Its shape and appearance today are however more that of a ancient hamlet than  an of fortress. There is one tower but without battlements while the main building has an almost monastery like look and U-shape.

The materials used during the renovation and the set-up of the grounds and amenities all emphasise its important history in todays appearance. Wandering through the hamlet and exploring the garden and woods is a pure delight. The atmosphere is enchanting, the details that mirror the history are unique and mesmerising.

The apartment

The warm and welcoming home is located at the 1st floor of the right wing of the castle which features a stone exterior. From the the centrally located main entrance the stairs lead right up to the apartment. From garage the elevator arrives at only meters from the front door which is especially convenient for bringing in groceries or for example firewood or during bad weather.

The beautiful wooden door gives access to spacious hall with to the left two storage cupboards and access to the laundry room. Straight ahead lies the bright dine-in kitchen with the beautiful roof construction “a vista”. The two tall windows let in plenty of light as do the living room and bedroom windows and all offer a lovely view of the grounds and distant countryside.

The stone fireplace is the focal point of the living which like the other spaces features cotto floors and wood and brick ceilings. The logical layout ensures a perfect flow in the home which continues with a hallway leading to a double bedroom and a separate bathroom with tub as well as a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower. This area features a comfortable parquet floor.

The grounds

The hamlet enjoys a wonderful position at the top of Monte Frondoso where it best served its ancient purpose. Next to it lies a park with ancient cypress trees, lawns and hedges with a slightly formal look as well as a sitting area from which the view can be enjoyed. The main gate below is followed by a winding uphill access road, the parking area and entrance to the convenient underground garage. The other side of the hill features well kept woods with a multitude of walking trails and a large clearing which is available for private events of the residents. The pool area is pristine and the perfect area to relax away from the world.

The surroundings

The castle is situated at about 600 m from the hamlet Solomeo. Way back the village was one of many, until cashmere industrial Cuscinelli stepped in and gave new life to the area with his world famous and very exclusive products and his all embracing approach of the local community. The once quite ancient village now features a lovely theatre, a bar, the ’Accademia Neoumanistica Aureliana and the Philosophers Garden.

The area surrounding Solomeo is one of constant renewal and developments featuring a mix of activities. It ranges from local gastronomy and cashmere to expanding international logistics companies.
